An undercurrent of the education movement is the movement away from institutions toward self-directed learning. Public education institutions need to be aware of the growing influence of unschooling. Its positive potentials and unintended negative consequences are unrealized, but may be an issue, especially as society reacts to the frenetic pace of personal and communal technology growth and reach.
